The opening phase covers getting properly set up and learning to fly the aeroplane.
Paperwork and setup

- Your profile and baseline totals complete
Flying
Dual instruction covering the preflight inspection, taxi, normal takeoffs and landings, climbs, descents, turns, slow flight, stalls, emergency procedures and radio work.
Knowledge
Airspace, weather, regulations, aeromedical factors and aircraft systems. If you are enrolled in a ground school, your school reports these subjects as they are taught and they appear here with a Reported by your ground school badge.
What fills automatically
Dual received, ground instruction, day landings and total time come from your logbook entries — including the lessons your instructor posts.
What your instructor signs
The pre-solo maneuver items. When they are complete you move to Phase 2, the solo authorization gate.
