Instrument rating (IFR) milestone syllabus
The instrument track follows instrument training from the first hood work to the check ride.
What the track covers
- Basic attitude instrument flying — full and partial panel, unusual attitude recoveries
- Navigation systems — GPS, VOR, ILS and the approaches flown with each
- Holding — entries, timing and wind correction
- Approaches — precision and non-precision, including circling and missed approaches
- Cross-country under IFR, including the long instrument cross-country
- Regulations, weather, charts and flight planning — reported by your ground school if you are enrolled in one
What credits automatically
Actual and simulated instrument time, approaches and holds come straight from your logbook entries, and in more detail from IFR Insights, where each approach is logged by type and airport.
What your instructor signs
Maneuvers, procedures and the practical test endorsement.

The hour requirements live on the instrument time milestones page.
