Entry validation (§ 61.51)
Log Scan Pro checks every entry as you type it, so a mistake is caught on the day you make it rather than on the day an examiner or an insurer reads your book.
What gets checked
- Total time arithmetic. Total is PIC + solo + dual received, with only one of the three on a single flight.
- Conditions can't exceed the flight. Cross-country, night, actual instrument, simulated instrument and simulator time can never add up to more than the flight itself.
- Night landings can't exceed total landings.
- Approaches and holds need instrument conditions — actual or simulated — on the same row.
- Solo excludes an instructor. A solo flight can't also carry dual received.
- Dates can't be in the future, and a flight can't be logged against an aircraft you have not added.
- Simulator time is kept separate from aircraft time in every total that must exclude it.
How warnings appear
A blocked entry tells you exactly which figure is inconsistent and will not save until you correct it. A soft warning — an unusual but legal combination, such as a very long single flight — lets you save and simply flags the row.
Why this matters later
Milestones, currency, IFR Insights and any report an insurer orders all read these figures. A clean entry today is what makes those outputs defensible. Rows posted by an instructor or a ground school go through the same checks before they reach you.
