School-employed or independent

Independent

Your students are the pilots who have saved you as their instructor. You post lessons, write endorsements, sign off Milestones items and can run your own courses for your own students.

At a school

You get all of that, plus everything the school shares: the school's students, its aircraft, its schedule and its courses. Students assigned to you by the school appear in your lists without them having to find you individually.

Both, and more than one school

An instructor can work at several schools at once. Each school relationship is separate and carries its own employment dates, approved aircraft, services offered, availability and scheduling status.

Courses

Where you create a course decides who can see it:
  • Created by the school — every pilot connected to that school can see and enroll
  • Created by you personally — only pilots connected directly to you
For a class the whole school is invited to, create it at the school level.

Leaving a school

Ending your relationship with a school does not delete your instructor record or anything you signed. Endorsements, reviews and lessons you wrote stay exactly as they are, with the school named as it was at the time.
Flight school associations are mutual: both sides agree, and either can end it.
